Ever wonder why those organic or eco-friendly products cost so much more? Apparently because that’s the way people like it. Researchers are now suggesting, with evidence from a recent study to back their claims, that the new, modern luxury lifestyle is taking the form of showcasing one’s ‘green’ status to the world.
It all hit home after buying a cheap DVD player at one of the biggest box store collections of imported junk on earth (I won’t mention any names).
It just may be that landing a green job is the best opportunity available right now. While we’re still not sure of exactly what all a green job entails, one thing we do know – many of them pay well. According to a Reuters survey, the average green collar worker makes $76,000 per year.
It all comes down to money, even when we’re talking ‘green’. Especially in a recession. Our hearts may be in the right place, but it’s becoming clear that Canadians and others are not willing to pay a premium for environmentally-friendly products when there are economically-friendly options.
