As a new decade begins, we look back on the first ten years of the 21st century and try to wrap our minds around its events and catch our breath after its rapid pace.
Ever wonder why those organic or eco-friendly products cost so much more? Apparently because that’s the way people like it. Researchers are now suggesting, with evidence from a recent study to back their claims, that the new, modern luxury lifestyle is taking the form of showcasing one’s ‘green’ status to the world.
It’s ironic that we still have to address littering in the 21st century, at a time when we’re battling to preserve the very existence of the planet. As unbelievable as it is (unless you look around at sidewalks and streets), littering has long been a blight to society and continues to be one.
Is a recession always bad? For those whose lives have been deeply impacted by it, such as by losing a job, there is no denying it can be a traumatic and unwelcome experience. For others, though, a recession can prod them towards a less wasteful and more realistic course of life.
Even for those of us sincerely ‘green’ at heart, the onslaught of unending and sometimes faddish advice and regimes to reduce our carbon footprint can become wearisome, even overwhelming. Actually, being ‘green’ is more about balance and viewpoint than being a fanatic.
