When Ottawa resident and 75 year old grandfather Bob Platts realized that the city green bins his neighborhood had been using as part of a pilot project would be switched for smaller ones, he saw a great opportunity.
For the official start in January of the city-wide green bin program, smaller bins will be used that fit into a lift and tilt mechanism as part of a partially automated pickup system. The city has allowed the users of the old, larger bins to keep them if they want.
From the large wheels to the sturdy plastic of the bins, they just had ‘go-cart’ written all over them, at least to a retired engineer like Platts.
After rummaging around in his garage, Platts emerged with his green bin racer ready to ride, and won the admiration of his grandchildren and also the whole block. Kind of makes us all wish we had a grandfather with the innovation and ‘green’ vision to create fun and games by recycling a recycling bin.

In the context of today’s world, ‘consuming’ and ‘balance’ in the same sentence seems to be an oxymoron.
