Interested in planting flowers in a hard to reach place? Perhaps your inner eco-warrior wants to participate in a little planned urban shrinkage. Introducing Seedbom. Handmade from various eco-friendly, organic and recycled materials like egg boxes, shredded office paper, compost and easy to grow flower varieties, Seedbom’s are ‘earth friendly’ grenades that grow.
By throwing a Seedbom into a piece of derelict land, neglected space, or fenced-in enclosure, you’ll be able to witness their explosive growth and the resulting rejuvenation of nature. Each Seedbom contains everything required to jump-start plant growth, enabling you to aesthetically enhance dull, lifeless places. A package contains 4 bombs, each with a different flower variety.
While totally biodegradable, I wouldn’t be caught with one of these plant bombs on a plane. Currently, they’re only sold in the UK, and, due to regulations on exporting seeds, they cannot be shipped to other countries. Since planting indigenous species of vegetation is more responsible, the Seedbom creator would eventually like to bring the product to the United States, featuring native seeds. A good idea, since we are already fighting off enough invasive species. Hopefully, as more people become interested in this ‘explosive’ idea, a U.S. and Canadian version can be brought to the market.

Oooh, is guerilla gardening getting a more people-friendly makeover?
The Guerilla Gardening Website actually has instructions for making your own seed bombs: http://www.guerrillagardening.org/ggseedbombs.html
I’m sure it makes for a great rainy day project for bored kids.
Those look like great ideas Dahlia! Perhaps I can get one of my nephews interested in one of these projects.
