We’re always on the lookout for eco-friendly solutions for that gadget-lover in our life. Gadgets that are green, but also extremely useful. Enter Better Energy Systems, a company that has developed the Solio Universal “Hybrid” Charger that is compatible with Sony PSPs, BlackBerries and, of course, the much-loved iPhone.
The Solio Hybrid stores energy from either the sun or the wall via its internal rechargeable battery. This energy is then used to recharge your gadgets at the same rate as a wall adapter. The Solio is also able to hold its charge for up to one year – so it’s a great emergency power solution if you need one in a pinch.
A fully charged Solio Classic will typically charge a small mobile phone at least twice or give your iPod enough juice for about 20 hours of music. The battery is also easily replaceable and lasts for about a year, depending on use.
The Solio is compatible with a wide range of gadgets thanks to its special adapter system. If a specific tip is not available for one of your devices, you may be able to use the USB port replicator tip that’s included in the box. However, if you’re an iPhone 3G owner, you’ll have to buy a separate adapter that will set you back about $15.
The Solio charger is a carbon neutral device. For every six chargers sold, Better Energy Systems, in partnership with various environmental organizations, plants trees to offset carbons emitted during manufacturing. Solio’s packaging is also 100% recyclable, making the device truly environmentally friendly.
