Nissan has announced that the sleek all-electric Nissan Leaf will be hitting Canada as soon as 2011 starting with British Columbia. Powered solely by electricity, the Leaf will not give off any greenhouse gas emissions but will still have the power of a V6 engine. The Nissan Leaf will also be able to reach speeds of up to 140 kilimetres per hour and have a range of approximately 160 km. This makes it one of the first all-electric vehicles to be able to reach highway speeds.
Nissan also plans to work with all levels of the Canadian government to have charging stations in place in preparation for the Leaf’s launch. This is great news as regulations have already been approved by Vancouver city council to have charging stations in at least 20 per cent of parking spots in new condominium and apartment building projects.
These new agreements add British Columbia to a growing number of zero-emission vehicle intitiatives worldwide. Nissan and its partner Renault have formed partnerships with 30 governments, cities and organizations to advance the deployment of electric vehicles across the globe.

I live in BC but not in Vancouver. I don’t travel far so I can charge it myself. Will all BC be allowed to drive the Nissan Leaf when it gets here or only Vancouver? Where can I order one?
Thanks.
Hi Wendy,
I believe only Vancouver will have access to the local charging stations but I’m sure all BC residence will be able to purchase the Nissan Leaf. Stay tuned for more news about the cars launch in the future and if you want more information contact your local Nissan dealership.
I live in Ontario, which appears to be unfortunate as far as the Leaf goes. First off any idea when it may be coming to Ontario…..do we have to wait until 2012? Secondly, any thoughts on how complicated it would be to buy one from a Vancouver dealership and have it sent to Ontario, or am I better off just waiting till it comes here?
Thanks.
I would love to see this car on the roads all over the world. It will finally mean that we no longer have to depend on the madness of the oil companies. The price to fill up has no limit and it continues to get more expensife every day. It will be very cool to see the day when these cars finally replace the gas hungury cars that take all of our money. If it’s not the cost of the gas, it’s the cost to constantly fix them because of all the added things just so it can be run on gas.
Electric cars are most certianly the way of the future with out a doubt. As soon as I can I will be buying an electric car.
